Let’s talk about JOY as an actor…

Where do you find your joy as an actor?

Is it in watching plays? Is it in listening to musical recordings? Is it in your favorite film from childhood or the latest film that just arrived on screen? Is it in binge watching a tv show? Is it reality tv or house hunters international? {Where are my house hunters international fans at?! That show is RIVETING every single episode. Am I right?} Or is it {gasp} have NOTHING TO DO WITH ACTING? Whew writing in all caps is so aggressive.

I think that no matter what brings you joy as an actor. You should be doing it…daily or weekly.

So much of our job is hurry up and wait. What if you can fill the wait part with joy?

Personally when I’m not injuring myself playing volleyball or weight lifting, I find hiking three days a week in LA to be JOYFUL AF. I find the physical challenge of huffing and puffing up the hill to be as delightful as the views of mountains/homes/city lights and even ocean to all add a general sense of “Wow, this is amazing to be a part of.” Also totally recommend belting out Broadway songs while by yourself on a hike. Took my per mile minute time to a personal best. Thanks Lin Manuel for your contribution at all times to making my life more joyfilled.

So, here is what I want to know. What are you doing to add joy to the downtime that is being a working actor? Seriously, let me know. Let’s get our joy on this fall, yeah?

With Joy,

Chivonne Michelle
